I know I'm not alone when it comes to not liking those big hairy black spiders that come crawling through the house from time to time. I'm not sure exactly what type of spider they are but I've been told by a few people they are wolf spiders. I don't have a huge problem with spiders in my house but the garage is full of them year round. I do live on a slab so that makes it easier for them to get into the house from the outside. I hate to kill spiders when I see them crawling on the walls as they make such a mess of the paint. If they were the tiny little translucent house spiders I wouldn't have a problem squaushing them on the wall, but killing those big hairy spiders is nasty.
I was told by my Inlaws that if you place pieces of hedge apples around your foundation or in your crawl space you wont have to worry about how to kill spiders they will just stay away. Something about not likeing the smell or the oils on them that the spiders don't like I guess. I haven't given this a try as I really dont want the mess of having hedge apples laying around the house. I've done just about everything else though like keeping the lawn very low around the foundation, spraying the fondation with spider killer several times a year, and I even tried one of those electronic pest control devices.
I wouldn't be overly concerned about it but our cat was recently bitten on the lip by one of the spiders and it got all infected and cost a fortune in vet bills. If its the last thing I do I'm going to figure out a way once and for all to learn how to kill these spiders easier. I know I can pay an exterminator to come spray regularly but heck I can do that myself. There has to be a more natural way to control spiders that I haven't come across yet. As soon as I get it figured out I'll let everyone know how to kill spiders in their homes.
